Finding Books and Articles

Bibliographies

Bibliographies will save you a lot of time and effort.  Consult these first! (Check the "bibliographies" link to the left.)

Online Indexes

The following databases should prove useful when you're looking for scholarly material about the Arthurian legend (click here to go to the library's links to these databases -- access restricted to Hanover College):

  • MLA Bibliography (Standard database to articles about literature and folklore)
  • Arts and Humanities Search (Articles and reviews in the arts and humanities, some full text)
  • Book Review Abstracts (Abstracts of book reviews)
  • Historical Abstracts (Articles and reviews for history, with abstracts)
  • Humanities Abstracts (Articles and reviews, with abstracts; some full text)
  • Art Abstracts (Abstracts for materials pertaining to all kinds of art, including movies)
  • WorldCat (Search for books in libraries worldwide; a quick way to find information about books not held by Duggan Library)

You can also try MetaLib, which serves several resources all at once!

Full Text Databases and Journals

  • J-Stor (Several leading journals of history and literature; time-lag of 4 years)
  • Project Muse (No time lag, but older issues not online; Still in progress)
  • Academic Search Elite (Again, no time lag but older issues not online)
