NOTES: See "Doubts About the Finley Line."  My brother Josh points out there is no substantial evidence disputing the Finley family's own recognition of James McGrew as the husband of Mary Finley (i.e., it is not the conventional situation of the less established line claiming a dubious but convenient kinship), so this site will resolve the issue that way unless and until more solid evidence calls that into question.

    From "Clan Finley":
John of Fife, as he was known, inherited land in Inchervie from his brother James in 1629.  He first married Eleanore Forbes, who died without issue.  At least three of his four children who survived to adulthood emigrated to Ireland.
