Samuel Avery, son of Thomas Avery and
brother
of Sarah Avery, died at the early age of 21,
cause
unknown. His grave marker at the parish church in Bishop's Tawton
is unusually well preserved. The poem at the bottom reads:
In love I liv'd, in peace I died,
My life desired but God denied.
If love or care could death prevent,
My days had not so soon been spent.
