I'm Charilaos Skiadas, but everyone calls me Haris. I received my Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Chicago, with a specialization in Algebraic Geometry, and in particular the study of algebraic connections and D-modules.
I am currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Hanover College. My research interest have switched quite radically. My teaching duties here have awaken in me a strong love for statistics, especially its more applied side. I'm currently focusing on data visualization, and I am reading with immense interest the works of John Tukey, William Cleveland and Edward Tufte.
I started learning programming when I was 5 years old, the the passion for it has never left me. Currently I mostly work with the language R, which is specifically designed for statistics. One of my long-term projects is making R more accessible to our students and faculty. You can find more info on my R page.
In my free time, I like playing basketball with my colleagues and students, programming, and spending time in nice coffee shops. My current regular spots are the Heine Brothers chain in Louisville, and the amazing Blue Dog Bakery and Café.
