Archeology and Sites

A Gazetteer of Sub-Roman Britain

A terrific resource maintained by the journal "Internet Archeology."  Search for information on key Arthurian sites. Before using it, you must register at the main site.

A Short History of Arthurian Archaeology

Graduate student paper.  "In this paper, I ... examine and discuss some of the archaeological evidence from the time of King Arthur and from associated sites to see if the history of this king is possible and not refuted by physical evidence. To accomplish this, I will describe the historical and political environment at the time of Arthur and detail two sites, Tintagel and Cadbury (Camelot) in terms of archaeological content."

Tom Green's "Arthurian Resources"

Discussion of "Arthurian Sites" includes "Mount Badon," "Castle Killibury, Cornwall," "Glastonbury, Somerset," "South Cadbury, Somerset," and "Tintagel, Cornwall."

King Arthur Pages at Britannia.com

Nice section on "Arthurian Travels," information about Glastonbury.

The Camelot Project at the University of Rochester

Follow the "Main Menu" link to a mini-encyclopedia that includes a discussion of Arthurian places (about half completed). In the bibliographical section, see Alan Lupack's essay on "Guidebooks to Arthurian Britain."

Early British Kingdoms Web Site

The section on the "Historical Arthur" contains information on "Arthurian Places to Visit" and "Arthur and Archaeology."  Under the latter, there are excellent articles on Tintagel and the Tintagel stone, for example.

King Arthur & the Matter of Britain

Maintains links to websites on Arthurian "History & Archaeology."
