NOTES: The names of John and Charity Smith were obtained from William
Smith's death certificate when it was in the possession of Daisy Smith
Truell (his granddaughter, sister of the first J. Avery Smith). Researcher
Miles Gordon writes that 1880 Census records indicate that the parents
of both John and Charity Smith were born in New Jersey, but it's not clear
who at that late date would have had certain knowledge of this. (Mr. Gordon's
notes tend to disregard the forward direction of time.)x
