Suggestions for studying: Exam II [10/15/06] Journal Assignments

J.A. #3 -  Your Family as a System.  DUE MONDAY 10/16/06        There is a "reader activity" on p. 280 of ch. 6.  Please use this for your third journal assignment.  Try to go beyond just answering the 3 guidelines given there -  what other concepts from this chapter and class discussion relate to your experience in your family?  I will use the same grading scale describe below for JA #2.  Please make use of my comments on previous JAs as well as the Learning Center to improve your writing further.  As always, try to integrate your personal experience with the course concepts we've been discussing.

J.A. #2 - Leadership Extremes.  DUE MONDAY 10/2/06       Think of two groups you have been in: the one which had the “best” leader and the one which had the “worst” leader (according to you).  Describe these two different leaders in terms of what made one so good and the other so bad.  What was each one’s leadership style?  Be specific: what were their behaviors which made one good and the other bad?  Identify the group dynamics which may have influenced each leader’s actions.         Use as many concepts from the leadership chapter (or other chapters we have read) as you can, to explain what made one leader more effective, or otherwise preferable to the other.        In case it is of interest to you, I have decided to start grading these on a scale of 1-10, to more finely tune the feedback you get.  Roughly, a 6 is a barely acceptable paper, a 7-7.5 is average, an 8 is above average, 9 would be extremely good and 10 would be perfect.  Put as much effort as you can into both applying the book's concepts and reflecting on your own experience as a group member.

J.A. #1 - Any reader activity from ch. 1 or 2
