This is where updates to the course will be announced - please check it regularly (at least twice each week).
12/17/06
The final project scores are now posted in the gradebook and the final course averages are now correct. Grades have been submitted to the Registrar and should be the same in MyHanover as what you see in the final column.
It was a pleasure teaching you all this term. Have a wonderful and restful break, everyone!
12/14/06
The final exam scores are now posted. I did need to review these carefully - there was an error in the scantron, which I fixed. Question #26 (on the glass ceiling) while fair, was apparently too specific, so I gave credit to those who missed this one. I also accepted some alternative answers for certain questions. When you see your scantron, you will see these adjustments in red. For now, the gradebook has the raw plus additional points to yield the corrected scores. While I am happy to review the packets with you in January, please review the textbook before coming in. For some of these the answers are clearly stated in the text, I'll direct your attention to pages 190-192, 301, 319 and 338, for starters.
The final stats are: mean = 78.0% and range: 54% to 100%.
The gradebook was re-posted earlier today with Participation scores and the average for your final project thus far. There were some type-o's in the P scores I posted the other day, so take what you see there now as the correct version (ignore anything posted before 3pm today).
Once the papers are completely scored I will post them and the Final Project column will be updated to include that additional 40% of your FP grade - so those are just estimates. However, you may see your final grade on MyHanover before I have a chance to post the final course averages next week. Again, I would be happy to review the exam, paper, or any other part of the course when we return in January. At that time, you should find your graded papers in your mailbox.
12/7/06
The gradebook now has Presentation scores and other new information. As before, the average you see is merely an estimate at this moment. It may go up or down significantly based on your final paper grade and the final exam score.
12/5/06
For anyone who missed it, we actually have CLASS during the poster session this Friday! Whoops! So, if you are interested, swing by the lounge right after class and maybe you can catch the researchers. Sorry - it often is set up for 2 hrs and I hadn't noticed the overlap....
11/29/06
Just a reminder: Extra Credit forms (complete with signatures, debriefing forms for online studies, and with your study summaries attached) are due in class on Weds, 12/5. I will not be accepting them after that time. 11/14/07
As with the other film, if you missed any portion of the Evolution of a Group film, it is at the library reserve desk for you to borrow and watch. You may also want to review it as preparation for the final exam, it may be easier to identify group development when seeing it the second time, in light of our recent conversations. Once again, please bring Yalom's article and your notes on it to class Friday so we can discuss.
11/9/07
The gradebook has been updated with JA 3 scores and thus the JA Average. I have updated the current average (estimated) accordingly. For those who have not received their paper back, it is in my outbox by my door for you to come get any time. Your papers are due 11/19, a week from Monday and Presentations start on 11/26. Come see me during office hours if you have questions about either the project or my previous feedback on the Journal Assignments.
11/7/07
A few quick reminders - if you miss any of the film we are watching in class, it will be at the library reserve desk AFTER we are done (next Monday); do come talk to me about your paper if you have questions or concerns about it; remember there is the extra credit option for this course - you will need the signed form and write-ups for each study you participated in - due the Wednesday of Dead Week.
10/31/07
The gradebook now has the second exam figured in to your course average. It is still only a rough estimate since much of the Final Project has not been incorporated.
10/26/07
The gradebook has been posted with the Exam II scores. Your average was 80.0% with a range of 63% - 93%. Nice Job! We will not be able to go over these until Friday of next week, but you can come by office hours if you want to see your scantron & packet before then.
10/19/07
The gradebook has a pink column in it indicating a rough estimate of your grade for the midterm. I am sending grades to the registrar based on this (only First-years, Transfers and those receiving a C- or lower get a mid-term report). This is a good time to check how you are doing in the course, attendance sheet, etc.
I have decided to make Exam II all multiple choice (no short answer, no essays). It will be about 30 questions.
Also, advising week starts soon; as you plan your Spring schedule you may want to consider the 200-level Psychology course I will be teaching. It counts as an elective for Psychology Majors/Minors and may be of interest, particularly for those of you who have already taken child development. This will be the last semester the course if offered.
Loss and Trauma in Life and Literature
Psychology 245
This course explores how experiences of suffering can derail, alter or strengthen the process of human development. We will explore issues such as early parental absence, childhood maltreatment and deprivation due to such events as war and disaster. Both psychological and literary works will be used to examine how specific developmental challenges impact identity formation.
Pre-requisites: Psy 111 or permission of instructor
Have a nice break!
10/18/07
Reminders: there are now several studies you can participate in if you want extra credit - go to the bulletin board outside of room 147 to sign up. Also, your exam is the Weds we come back (10/24) so bring questions to class tomorrow if you want them answered.
10/17/07
For those who missed class today - your journal is awaiting pick up in my box. Remember Exam II is on Weds after break - bring questions (preferably written) on Friday.
10/12/07
Once again, the first Hanover Psych research opportunity is being run by Karin Schubert, Isaac Weinkauf and Jacob Cooper. They have posted a sign-up sheet for an extra credit opportunity on the bulletin board by room 147. The study will take place on Oct. 17th and 18th (next Wednesday and Thursday), at 6:00PM and then again at 7:00PM each evening. It is titled, "Media and Privacy" (#07-27), will consist of a short video and questionnaire, and will take no more than 30 minutes. They are seeking up to 32 participants (eight per session), so there is plenty of room for anyone who wants the credit.
The form you need is now linked to my main coursepage. 10/5/07

I know you are all carefully paying attention to the syllabus grid, but just in case you missed it, we are moving on to chapter 7 this week, we'll return to chapter 6 toward the end of the term.
9/25/07
I have posted the gradebook w/the MC portion of the exam - raw and %. Note that how you did on the short answer will raise or lower this grade. Again, ch. 5 is due tomorrow.

As mentioned in class yesterday, the video describing an economist conducting Participant Observation in a gang is at the site of TED - Technology, Entertainment and Design:
