This research is being conducted as an independent study by psychology students David Phelps and Sarah LeStourgeon at Hanover College. The study in which you are asked to participate is designed to examine attitudes toward school and performance on certain tasks. You will be asked to complete two questionnaires and to participate in two separate tasks examining varying domains of performance. The first task involves dot estimation in which you will be asked to estimate the number of dots shown to you. Then, you will be given a series of analogies. Each analogy consists of a pair of words in which you will be asked to identify the relationship between the words. For example, "apple is to fruit as carrot is to ___." The entire experiment is designed to take no more than 30 minutes. There are no known risks involved in being in this study, beyond those of everyday life. The information you provide during the study is completely anonymous; at no time will your name be associated with the responses you give. If you have any questions during or after the study, please contact David Phelps at phelpsd@hanover.edu, Sarah LeStourgeon at lestourgeons@hanover.edu or our research advisor Bill Altermatt at altermattw@hanover.edu.
